The 12big Rack Fibre has 12 individually tested Enterprise Class disks, supports six RAID modes, including 5, 50, and 6, and allows the user to create up to 60 SATA disk arrays through daisy-chainable 12big Rack Expansions to go along with your storage needs.
It's a great addition to any Storage Area Network (SAN), and thanks to its user-friendly, browser-based interface, management is easy and downtime is reduced. It features up to four 4Gb/s fibre channel connections, and when combined with active/active dual RAID controllers, it can support six simultaneous 4:2:2 uncompressed video streams in RAID 5.
In addition to the 12 hot-swappable disks and individually tested enclosures, the LaCie 12big Rack Fibre's dual RAID controller option, two power supplies, and redundant cooling units are hot-swappable, providing the ultimate in redundancy and security. With the 12big Rack Fibre, there is no single point of failure and a backup battery helps to ensure cached data within the RAID controllers can even survive a power failure. Accessing your data from Mac, Windows, or Linux-based workstations can also be done through multiple fiber channel connections and multipathing drivers.
With StorView software, it's simple to configure and administer the LaCie 12big Rack Fibre. Its web-based interface helps automate control of cache, arrays, and devices. StorView also offers access to the RAID Advanced Power Management Program, which administrators can use to minimize the 12big's operational costs, and Snapshot software helps assist in data recovery.
To prevent data corruption over time, the 12big Rack Fibre will periodically scan disks to ensure the data will be accessible when requested. The 12big will also recalculate parity and locate it elsewhere on the drive when it detects a bad block on a specific drive. 2 TB of capacity allows for storage of approximately 150 hours of uncompressed DV digital video, the equivalent of 425 4.7 GB DVD video discs, or up to 500,000 MP3 files. RAID Data Protection The drive supports SAFE 100 (RAID 1) mode for data security. In this mode, data is mirrored on both physical disks inside the enclosure. This ensures that you have a real-time backup of all of your data. The drive also supports BIG mode, which gives you maximum capacity without data protection. Ethernet Interface The Gigabit Ethernet interface allows users to access data and administrators to administer the drive remotely through a standard LAN connection, making it easy to add to your existing network infrastructure. Expansion and Sharing The drive features two USB 2.0 ports for expansion. They allow you to connect additional external USB 2.0 hard drives for network data sharing. This lets you access data from an existing external drive via Ethernet. Secure When using the Ethernet interface the drive administrator is able to set share levels and user permissions to control exactly what files network users are able to access, making it a great solution for sharing data in small work groups.
